Excellent resource for beginners and previous dog owners needing a refresher

This is a good, basic intro to puppy/dog training. It's a bit superficial and doesn't go into great depth, but covers all the essential topics for a new puppy owner. I especially like the tips and advice for kids and puppies. Excellent reminders! The instructions for teaching a dog not to jump up are good, but I would add that teaching a dog to sit instead of jumping up is helpful - then you're replacing a bad habit with a good one rather than just teaching the dog not to jump up.
For .99 cents, this Kindle purchase is a no brainer. I bought this on audiobook and found the narration pleasant with good emphasis in the right spots. The information is spot on for the basics. For in depth info when you need more help, I like The Puppy Primer by Patricia McConnell and Barron's Dog Training Bible.

This book will save me lots of $$!!

As someone who has never owned a dog with kids who have been BEGGING for a puppy this is an excellent resource to understand the work that it takes to raise an obedient dog. I have friends that have spent hundreds of dollars to get their dogs trained professionally. After reading this book I feel fully equipped to bring a little one home and actually know how to fully train it!!

I was very excited to get this book and read it, but right off the start im not happy with it because the front cover all pages and back cover printing is REALLY crooked. really disappointing that I have to read through all the slanted pages.
Plus the covers printing so tilted looks like a child printed it themselves......
Pretty bummed.
