Captivity Series

This book is really for people in jail or prison who are wanting to learn about the Lord and don't know where to start. Also good for Christian Leaders to read to have a ministry with incarcerated men and women. It could also help others who have problems like addictions of any kind...the author was in prison before she wrote this, but she turned her life over to the Lord and then wrote this book. Very good to read!

This is an excellent book to send to someone in jail. That is exactly what I did. So I myself have not read the book but it was highly recommended to me. Now this book is sitting in a jail to help many people find themselves and who they are supposed to be and were created by God to do.

Laurie Schneider Adams received a Ph.D. in Art History from Columbia University. She is Professor Emerita of Art History at John Jay College, City University of New York, where she taught art survey, and at the Graduate Center, where she taught courses on the Italian Renaissance and on Art and Psychoanalysis. She has published articles on iconography and on art and psychology. Art Across Time

The vastness of the world art subject is daunting but I believe that Laurie Schneider Adams in Art Across Time successfully covers the most crucial aspects including areas of non-western art. Such examples as Mughal Art and the Baroque or 19th Century Impressionism and Japanese Prints or Gauguin and Oceania in Post Impressionism are invaluable for their strategic placing and representation of non-western models. There are also highlighted tables throughout the book about contextual history as is the one on Scientific Experiment in the Enlightenment. Furthermore, the introductory chapter contains key issues about art as well as stylistic terminology, and art historical methodologies which are a necessary part of art history for beginners. The plates are beautiful and are accompanied at times with plans and maps that are useful aids in the teaching process. The Art Across Time, volume one and two, are extremely important to those college instructors teaching Survey in two semesters, but the volumes are also useful separately. Schneider Adams writes in a flowing discourse that is facile for the undergraduate to understand and explains difficult ideas in precise, well organized formats that are easily assimilated. To be sure there are tiny flaws in Schneider-Adams' Art Across Time, but the book comes as close to perfection as one can get given the magnitude of this area. Shallow overview of too much information but...

This book saved my life in ARH 102 at ASU. The lecture was so awful and full of inaccuracy I could barely tolerate listening to it. Luckily this book contained basically the same info as what we covered in lecture and I managed to eek out an A by 7/10ths of a percent.

Unfortunately the copy I received as a loaner from Amazon was already falling apart -- the binding was broken and several pages were nearly falling out already... After a weeks use an entire chapter fell out in a chunk. The "Good condition" rating they gave it may have been a bit optimistic.

This book is an amazing book. It goes over the 2nd source of Sharia/Islamic Law (The words, actions, and sanctions of the Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.). A good detailed explanation from a proper source. It is something that is needed and it could be used as a criteria between the propaganda and false information that the misinformed people spread about Islam and what Islam really is. The author, Qazi Fazlullah Saheb (Hafidhahullah), is a living gem. He has spent majority of his life studying and learning both Religious and Secular knowledge from proper sources. I recommend not only his written work but also his live classes as well. If you want to learn proper Islam from a proper source then buy his books and benefit from him as much as you can because it's not common knowledge being taught everywhere nowadays.

Fun safari fiction

A fun easy read. Having followed James Hendry on many live safaris thanks to Wild Earth, I am very familiar with his humor so I was sure I would enjoy his novel. I was right. Having been on safari a couple years ago, I really hope he was exaggerating about the American tourists. Although, he was mostly equal opportunity with his hilarious descriptions of all nationalities.

Great read! Should be a mini series on PBS.

Hilarious story about two young brothers becoming civilized by the wild. Not recommended for bedtime because you'll want to find out what Angus and Hugh have done next. His style is reminiscent of Somerset Maugham's entertainments. I hope James continues this saga. Highly recommended.

YOU GOTTA READ THIS. ABSOLUTELY AWESOME AND HILLARIOUS

This has got to be one of the best books I have ever read. Just thinking of what occurs in this story makes me want to read it all over again. It is hilarious. Buy this and you are going to shed many tears of laughter. This gives the reader a very good idea of what happens in the upmarket game lodges in South Africa and how much fun these guys have. Without revealing too much of what happens, go buy this book. I guarantee you will love it. It is worth every cent and more. I am currently reading the follow up to this (Back to the Bush) and am thoroughly enjoying it.

Outstanding Desktop Reference

I looked long and hard for a book this thorough. A buddy of mine had Crevelings tolerancing book and I thought that was excellent. As I finished my masters degree, I needed a thorough desktop reference that I thought represented best in class. That's exactly what this book is. Since each chapter is written by the major players in these areas, this book is much more than one authors views on the topics. Rather, it is a best in class compilation from some of the sharper folks here in the US doing dimensioning and tolerancing. Paul's chapters themselves are excellent and very thorough. His discussion on how to incorporate the geometric controls into stackup analyses is excellent. Overall, this book should be on every mechanical engineers desktop along with the ASME GD&T standard and Montgomery's books on Quality Control and Design of Experiments. Hats off to Paul and all the other authors for their excellent work!

This book includes an extraordinary consolidation of cutting edge information and innovative authors that are truly on the "bleeding edge of technology"! Each chapter covers different topic areas by individuals practicing these design techniques and tools in the real world today. The chapters cover everything from an overview of the various quality thursts, to tolerance allocation techniques, to maximizing GD&T, to Statistical tolerancing, to developing process capability models for DFSS (Designing for Six Sigma), and much more. This text is surely one of the best ever compiled as a consolidation of the contained related subject matter. This is a priceless body of knowledge in a single book!

Excellent Reference book

This book is a MUST HAVE for any serious engineer/designer. I bought this book two years after I graduated to introduce me to tolerance stack up. I have however found a use for every piece of information in this book. It is also refreshing to see that each chapter/section has been written by experts in each of their disciplines so you know that you are getting the best of the best in both knowledge and explanation. Amazing book.

Outside the Academy

These two books neatly collected into one volume are written by a man who was a traditional academic but chose to work outside the academy and it is this that he discusses in these books. Trained as a historian Thompson takes a mythical view of history informed both by his own views and those of W.B. Yeats whose "A Vision" is interpreted here. To classify Thompson as simply "new age" would be to dismiss him too easily. While his work does fit at times with that nebulous genre he wrote these before that term was coined. This is a different take on history and on the academy. I regularly give copies of this one to my academic friends to keep them from getting stagnated by the university system. Essential reading.

A Must For Every Library

William Irwin Thompson is one of the truly great minds of our time. These two early works (which were originally published separately) are the perfect introduction to Thompson's opus. While some of the pop culture references may seem dated, passed over by events, the basic world view presented here remains valid.

Thompson, riding on the shoulders of such as Jean Gebser and Marshall McLuhan, illuminates the transitional period we are undergoing, as we move out of the modern era into ... whatever is coming -- we don't really know yet, but the so-called "postmodern" isn't the future, it's just a replay of isolated elements of the modern. Thompson sees signs of one possible future in the emerging planetary consciousness where thinking globally while acting locally is more than a pop phrase but a new way of perceiving our oneness with a sacred world. Thompson looks at signposts all over the planet which, taken individually might seems interesting, but taken together begin to form a picture that inspires either hope or dread, depending on your attachment to the prevailing consciousness. (You'll have to read his more recent books to get his take on capitalism's latest phase of globalization.)

I won't give any more away as I don't wish to spoil the intellectual feast that awaits the reader. I urge anyone interested in the history of ideas and in understanding the changes taking place in the world around us to read Thompson, starting with this publication. Then work your way through the rest of his books. It's a journey that can change your worldview and your life.

The Myths That Keep on Giving...

William Irwin Thompson is a cultural historian and one of the few writers who pay attention to the myths of humankind that wash within us, over us and through us in this strange epoch of existence we now find ourselves.

Thompson has written that we are like ants crawling across an oil painting: our limited consciousness can sense a series of changes and colors but it is only the poet, the mystic or the artist who is able to glimpse and describe the bigger picture. Thompson uses his nimble, eclectic intelligence to reveal the larger patterns of history that narrate and guide the complex unfolding of human existence in context with both culture and cosmos.

We only see through a glass, darkly. And there is much more than meets the eye. To use another metaphor, the night sky we stare up into reveals the light from stars that left deep space aeons ago. We are truly living in a different universe than the one we can perceive.

Thompson takes the reader on a journey that connects cultural dots that we rarely acknowlege to illuminate our journey to and through the future of our human heritages, our civilizations and our species. This book of essays is no guru romp through the New Age, but a work of serious historical scholarship that is both readable and penetrating.

It is a mythic manual for the new world and can be read, enjoyed and marveled at again and again.

Adorable book and teaches things to help older sibling feel loved and needed in their new role!

My son LOVES this book. I am thrilled that it teaches him some of the things that he can do to help when the baby arrives. He is 19 months just to give you an age range. I also like how the book points out that he is an important part of the family even though there is a new baby. This would be a great gift for anyone expecting their second child!

Cute book for big brothers

Cute book. I read it to my 2 year old every night because he will have a little brother coming home soon. The illustrations are cute and the content is the right amount. My son asks for it now. I like that it can be read now as we prep for our new arrival but will still work after the baby has come. Some of the other books prepping for a new baby seem to only work for the pregnancy stage.

Caroline church doesn't have a single book under 5 stars in my opinion. She is by far my favorite child author. Every one of her books have a very strong positive message of loving your children no matter what.
